“The Last” is the project I’m currently working on. It’s an upcoming Young Adult, Urban-Fantasy novel (I think it’s UF, until a Publisher tells me otherwise). Set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, “The Last” tells the story a teenage boy, Quinten Fortis, who is compelled to search out a little girl, “Millie.” What happens from there will determine the future of humanity. I initially made a proof of concept/Web series pilot (and am attaching it here for you to see). I wrote, directed, did the visual effects, animation and score.
Over the course of the next several months, I’ll be posting various excerpts from the manuscript on a password protected page. It is my hope that a few of you SFF lovers will be my early eyes and ears. Please do me a favor, however, and do not offer “in depth” critical analysis. That’s not what I’ll be looking for at this early stage. What will be most helpful will be relating a general sense of events, tension and so forth. For example, “I didn’t understand when…” or “It worked for me when…, etc.”
If things go in much the direction the characters seem to be taking them, and of course the story is well enough received, I wouldn’t be surprised if “The Last” is a prequel to much broader events.
As I said above, I’d love to share the journey with you. I’ve never done this before so I can’t say that I’ll ever do it again. Usually when I write it is a solitary thing. Having eyes on raw material is very different for me. I know some novelist, however, for which I have a great deal of respect do this very thing. So I figure I’ll give it a go.
If you’d like to take the journey with me, just hit me with your name, email and at least one author you really like (don’t worry about who. It doesn’t matter. It will just help me get a sense of your taste), using the form below and I’ll send you the password.
